It is a process by which your digestive enzymes digest your body in addition to your food.

It is caused by escape of digestive enzymes out of the gastrointestinal tract.

Our goal is to

- develop bioengineering tools to identify cellular and molecular mechanisms that lead to tissue and organ dysfunction by digestive enzymes.

- design new interventions to minimize cell dysfunctions and tissue destruction by digestive enzymes and degrading enzymes they activate.
